Guest Post: 3 Weeks In – Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder

By Mikhaila

This post is written by Marissa. Thanks for contributing! Hope everything keeps up!

“I am a 33 year old female recently diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder. I deal with joint pain, hand swelling along with numbness, extreme fatigue, muscle pain, muscle twitches and spine pain.

After reading up on functional medicine along with hearing about Mikhaila’s journey from my fiancée, I decided to go grain, sugar, and dairy free. My diet has consisted of entirely organic foods. Lots of red meat (grass fed) and fish, green vegetables, sweet potatoes (since it’s not a nightshade), olives, sauerkraut, and avocados. I also added in a probiotic and collagen by Vital Proteins. Within 4 days my back pain went away. Within a week my muscle twitching subsided. My hands have slowly gotten better but I believe that will take more time for them to heal completely as this has been my worst ailment. Although it was a little soon, today I tried dairy and within 20 minutes my throat itched and I was coughing for an hour. I have days I am still fatigued, and days I have more energy, but overall I feel human again. I’m going to try to keep this up for another 5 weeks before I introduce any more foods back into my diet. I have been so encouraged by this blog, thank you Mikhaila for inspiring us and letting us know we’re not alone.”

  1. Marissa, so good to hear! (I once had finger numbness that took 3 mos to heal). You’re on the right road.

I’ve been reading and highly recommend William Davis, MD’s 2017 book UNDOCTORED: WHY HEALTH CARE HAS FAILED YOU AND HOW YOU CAN BECOME SMARTER THAN YOUR DOCTOR.

As it says in the book’s advert: “Undoctored is the spark of a new individually-empowered health care movement. The results of Dr. Davis’ 6-week program are superior to solutions provided by the conventional healthcare system. You will be equipped to manage your own health and sidestep the misguided motives of a profit-driven medical system.” He advocates Grain Free (explains why – am listening in my car – he’s author of “Wheat Belly”), Sugar Free and great caution w dairy.

    DAVID PERLMUTTER, MD
“America’s ‘healthcare’ system is anything but. With its dedication to highly monetized interventions, consumers have been relegated to serving as pawns in an impressively profitable paradigm focused on illness, while the notion of keeping us healthy is of little concern. In Undoctored, Dr. Davis explores this revelation, and thereafter, transforms the reader from passive bystander, sitting on the sidelines at the mercy of the system, to an active participant, deeply engaged in the process of regaining and maintaining optimal health. This is a powerfully empowering and life-changing text.”

  2. Well done Marissa,

I get similar symptoms to you when I try to eat a food that I know my body doesn’t accept. When I am on a really “clean” diet and eating foods my body finds acceptable. When I eat a food that my body doesn’t accept i get a much more acute signal from my body to “stop eating that food” right now! My symptoms would be congestion in my throat, dizziness, weakness, dull stabbing pains in different parts of my body. Where if I continue to keep eating that food that doesn’t agree with my I could feel crummy for a few days more.

Keep going, keep exploring your diet. Good Luck
