Recreational Drugs and Alcohol and Food Sensitivities

By Mikhaila

Hopefully, this one won’t get me in trouble but I’ll put it out there because I haven’t found any info on it anywhere else online. And I did google it when I was wondering.

Unfortunately, this inability to consume basically anything except for pure distilled alcohol, water, beef, and salt, also means I can’t do any fun drug.

About two months ago I had a terrible cold, and I can’t take any painkillers so I was laying there (basically dying) and figured I’d smoke some weed. I had already reacted to a puffer months before that but I figured I’d give the weed a go.

I had autoimmune symptoms for about 3 weeks after smoking that joint. They weren’t terrible like trying to reintroduce a new food, but it looks like I can’t inhale anything. Even marijuana. A vaporizer probably would have been a smarter idea but I didn’t have one on hand.

(UPDATE: not entirely sure if this was actually just a reaction to the cold. Colds give me flare ups so it could have been that, not the weed. Probably won’t test it out though.)

Other drugs:

I’m a pretty open individual and I’ve tried a lot of different recreational drugs, especially as a university student. Cocaine is also a no go. Obviously coke isn’t good for anyone but I can’t do any without three weeks of skin breakouts, joint pain, back pain, and brain fog. Not nearly as bad as a food introduction (funny eh?) but still not worth it at all. Haha, it’s also difficult to feel sorry for yourself if you’re reacting to cocaine… So I do not recommend.

It looks like the only substances I can abuse are bourbon, vodka, and silver tequila. And trust me, I’ve tested everything else out.

Just to reiterate:

Bourbon, vodka (unflavoured), and silver tequila are the only alcohols that don’t have added ingredients after distillation. Bourbon is stored in wood which gives it its flavour and colour but that doesn’t seem to bother me. (Hangover pills here that help you detoxify alcohol rapidly – no fillers in these pills).

Other whiskeys (like scotch) can have added caramel colouring. I react to this. So if you’re super sensitive those are three alcohols that are the least reactive. Silver tequila (gold tequila has added caramel colouring), bourbon, and unflavoured vodka.

Good luck out there. Don’t let anyone complain at you for trying to fix yourself. It’s hard enough as it is.

    1. I tried mdma on the low carb elimination diet and it seemed to be okay.. I haven’t tried it since going carnivore and again, I’m not sure if I will because of the risk of 3 weeks of reacting. But I’m also kind of curious. It’s technically a salt right? And I seem to be able to ingest many different forms of salt… Who knows.

    2. Nope! I don’t trust anything and it’s such a pain to react for 3 weeks. I haven’t tested it out. I thought inhaling would be better than ingesting anything… But who knows. I probably won’t test it out though to be honest. I used to use marijuana (not cbd though) to help with reactions when they were really awful, and it helped, but I can’t seem to do that anymore.

    3. If you can describe the reactions and symptoms you experienced after smoking weed in a bit more detail, I would find it extremely useful and interesting. Thank you.

  1. Have you tried consuming cannabis in other ways besides inhalation? Like tinctures, etc?

  2. I’ve generally found that 4-8 pills per day of vitamin C decreases cold symptoms and duration quite a bit. You might be allergic to the binders and fillers, but it might be worth a try.

On a zero sugar diet, your cells are going to be very sensitive to Vitamin C intake, so a smaller dose may help you as much as the large dose helps me.

I have a completely different set of allergic triggers than you, its interesting that you say the wood smoke flavor in bourbon is fine for you. Wood Smoke flavor is a major headache cause for me.

    1. Just FYI, you *can* get straight-up Vitamin C powder (it’s tiny crystals) that does not have any binders.

    2. Yes! I have a ton of vitamin c powder at home.. Very tasty. I haven’t tried it since low carb to see what happened to my vitamin c levels naturally. But next time I get sick I’ll do that

  3. That is so interesting. You’ve been so thorough in you assessment I believe that you have analysed your condition with the observation of a scientist! You are your father’s daughter. Well done. Stay well and good luck.

    1. I haven’t because I know I wouldn’t be able to tolerate them.. I know people who have. Throws them off for at least a week. More like 2. Wouldn’t really recommend if you suffer from mood issues.

    2. I second that about staying away from psilocybic mushrooms if you have mood issues. I don’t have mood issues at all I get splitting headaches and the blues when I come down from mushrooms. MDMA is another one that is fucking awful for the brain. Stay well clear if you have mood issues (or simply appreciate your neurological health in general).
