  1. Dear Mikhaila … I am overwhelmed with a sense of cautious hopefulness re this carnivore diet. I mean, could it be this simple? One question, what about constipation? I thought meat rots in the gut and takes days to… anyway, whatever, I don’t want to over think this. I have tried everything for years in the hopes of curing the so called incurable autoimmune diseases doctors have diagnosed me with and nothing has really worked (Lupus, Graves/hyperthyroidism). I’m just wondering, does one supplement with magnesium? Is constipation not an issue? Tips? My apologies if you have already addressed this topic. I’m new here. ps. I’m so happy for the health you have found through this different way of eating. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us. pps. I am one of many whose life is changing for the better through your Dad’s lectures and books. Through him, I found out about you and now here I am rambling and the rest is history. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Christine

    1. Constipation isn’t an issue at all. If anything I had the opposite problem (diarrhea) when switching over. Now my digestion is fine. Not everyone gets diarrhea switching over either. Dad said his digestion just improved. The whole meat rotting in you is a myth. I haven’t had to supplement at all, but I do eat a lot of salt. If I reduce my salt intake I get muscle cramps. It’s worth a try. You’d need to try it for a solid month to give it a real shot. Good luck!

    2. Hello there. Me again…just wondering why folks on the carnivore diet don’t get scurvy? Also, have you ever heard of anyone whose glaucoma has been helped/cured through carnivorism? Thank you for your time, C

    3. A.f.a.i.k. there’s vit c in the fat. The inuit don’t have a problem sourcing it, and recall Dr. Stephen Phinney making reference to such in one of his lectures.
What I would be concerned with on the carnivore diet is adequate b6 pyroxidone. When supplementing add b6 to a b complex and cyanocyclobomin is cheaped out b12 so choose one with Methylcyclobomin. Though some companies without naming names have figured out some tricks with that.
Even if you find some b’s in the meat the toxic metal substance load that we are carrying will be shunting b6 and b12 to dealing with the metals by your liver which prioritizes methylation.
One consequence of this health wise is carpal tunnel.
Another idea would be to drink Nettle tea. Nettles help remove uric acid which could go higher especially if the meats are grain fed and nettles is a good source of vitamin c.

      cheers

  2. re: (Lupus, Graves/hyperthyroidism)

All autoimmune have leaky gut in common so strategy If I had this would be heal leaky gut so carnivore / ketogenic diet would be my approach. But I’m commenting because having researched graves in the past I found out that there is a connection to copper. If memory serves it was excess copper (do not engage in chelators without much research -but you could look at using zinc an agonist with copper supplementation) if that helps. You might enquire of oradix.com Thomas Janossy has a lot of useful knowledge and he’s in Toronto.
Mikhaila I would try coconut oil long before I went to butter (though quality butter which is hard to find would be good as well 100% grass fed. New game is to call conventional grass fed to confuse those who understand it to mean no grain or grass fed but grain finished) Coconut oil like butter has butyric acid which is really good for the gut.

    1. For some people, coconut oil can irritate skin problems like rosacea because of the salicylates in it :/

    2. A Naturopath in Ottawa – Dr. Gerhard Schmidt once explained that all allergies are a function of toxic liver. Certainly if you are having a response to the coconut oil then is real butter (grass fed) out for you? Quality saturated fats as we found out were excoriated falsely by Ancel Keys and others to favour the sugar industry and falsely blame fats.

Your comment TeeDee speaks to a larger question about toxins. Does rat poison kill rats? Or is that just someones opinion? Can testing done on rats (lethal dose 50% -49% die therefore 51% didn’t die so it’s safe!) suggest caution for humans, as we are also mammals?

For argument sake let’s agree that toxins and poisons do in fact exist. And that if you put toxins in the food supply (cides / round-up put directly on the wheat / oats / barley as a dessicant) and people don’t know about it, it still has negative health consequences. So yes there is the ‘placebo’ and the ‘no-cebo’ effect When people are toxic it can produce a myriad of individual responses.

There is a doctor in the u.s. who claims that she has now ‘cured’ or ‘helped’ over 3,000 patients by simply having them go on an ‘organic’ diet. (As reported by Jeffrey Smith, how many people have a doctor who will ever utter the word -‘cure’? Could there really be such a ‘Magic Pill’?). Now is it the lack of ‘cides’ or is it the increase in nutritional density or is it both?

Since our bodies run on enzyme systems (key / locks) what’s to be done with those keys that don’t fit the locks? Dr. Sherry Rogers book: ‘Detox or Die’ is pretty dogmatic certainly some would argue that she should be forced to amend the title by adding: ‘or evolve’ to it. As to the non fitting keys -the liver uses bile to wrap the toxins up creating gallstones -they fill up in the billary ducts of the liver and then in the gallbladder where there is more room and when full -pain. Still have your gallbladder or have you been convinced that it is a vestigial organ (they make the same argument for the appendix though it’s needed for the biome) that you don’t need and it has been surgically removed?

By eliminating the round-up (40 some % glyphosate + 60% toxic waste) which is pretty much endemic (they can’t find people who aren’t eliminating glyphosate in the urine -that should give pause, (round-up was originally patented as an antibiotic!) men dump more apparently because they are drinking more beer)) and is why this carnivorous diet is working is that folks like Mikhaila they are uber toxic and by eliminating these toxins can find relief. If correct, the right response is detoxification. As I understand primarily liver though done in the order of first colon, second kidney, third liver / gallbladder flush -Hulda Clarke’s then the liver.

Mikhaila reported that she found relief from doing an infrared sauna and felt better this is easy evidence to tell you that you are toxic and should keep doing same.
(What else would you do to know this? Blood, hair and urine are not that accurate though can be useful in context often however they require challenges to force dumping to provide test results. Some challenges can make life much worse for ex. d.m.p.s.challenges which I would never do.

Many report success using strategies that follow saunas with detox baths, coupled with enzyme therapy. The skin being the easiest pathway out for toxins -n.b. that would depend also on how clean is the water you are bathing in as it can be a 2 way street).
Other ideas to research include boosting glutathione-s-transferase (#1 detoxifier of cells) and super oxide dismutase (s.o.d. #2 detoxifier of cells) think 100% grass fed whey protein + selenium + chaga as a great strategy as well as getting rid of the flouride in your water (reverse osmosis maybe)and adding a sulfur source -m.s.m. for example. This is too complex for a robust reply but a place to start researching. There are folks for whom this would be a bad strategy or need to temper it with proper advice (APOE-4 for ex), and others like myself for whom this has been profound. Most doctors are completely oblivious to this as they are not taught any of this have 1-3 hours total training in nutrition.

Learning about how to temper ‘herxheimer’ or ‘cleansing effects’ can mean the difference between misery and tolerable.

Thanks Mikhaila for sharing your experience hope this serves

    3. I think our liver health has a lot to do with it, though there are very small children who have allergies with perfectly healthy livers, as far as I know. I’m becoming more convinced each day that the inability to process glucose along with insulin resistance causes a lot of my issues. The bottom line is that healthy animal fats and meats with enough clean water is what I’m consuming to get healthy again and I just wish I’d known this decades ago, but better late than never 🙂

    4. Hi Terri
The first born child is mom’s primary detox after menses. In fact menstruation is considered to be the main reason that women out live men. Post menopausal women do well to add a detox regimen.

The 1st born child takes the biggest toxic load from mom -it’s the way it is. As they mature into young children the toxins are processed by the liver and are stored in the bile ducts like everybody else Their livers are overloaded as well as they usually eat the same foods and do not have a fully functioning system like adults, and we are all suffering from death by a 1,000 cuts. As all processed food contains little to 0 nutrition which is why they advertise fortification -marketing scam. Some of the largest milk producers in the world like Fonterra in N.Z. I have heard add micronized calcium (the calcium carbonate that they use in paint) to the milk since they advertise it as a good source of calcium. Many supplements are nothing other than ground up limestone -calcium carbonate and are literally useless to us, other than they can contribute to bone spurs. It’s not how our bodies source nutrients we need plants to convert (through bacterial action) soil minerals into a form that we can eat and we have eat either the plants or what eats the plants.
We are busy vilifying cows -blaming them for the and stupid mendacious practices of agribusiness that is in full out ‘see no evil’, ‘hear no evil’ / ‘speak no evil’. That have the cattle in feed lots creating methane when on grass only diets as they were designed to eat they don’t produce the methane and can sequester all the carbon and make excellent topsoil and feed us nutritious food.

Cows ironically which have a rumen -4 stomachs with bacteria -again completely decimated by the round-up are able to lick rocks and extract and convert those minerals into useful nutrition. We are hind gut fermenter’s and can’t do this trick.

Our society will never get past this evil -the now off patent round-up. Estimated to be doubling in use every 6 years and the world apparently used 4.5 billion tons of this nightmare last year. Good news is that eventually soil bacteria and sunlight will beat it after 16 years but life dependent on food in the interim is going to go through a blender. This to quote Arden Anderson (phd in agronomy -soil science and a physician “will make d.d.t. look like a piker”).

Many if not most farmers believe the marketing campaign’s and quote marketing points not technical data about this. Happy to be cast as a naive alarmist, go listen to Jeffrey Smith for a while (search his name and g.m.o.’s) and see if you can ignore this data that doesn’t make for news. The idea that we have govt health protection that approves of this in our food supply is the joke of the millenium, it’s like saying: “Breathe in the vapours they are good for you”. The same group have made selling parsley in a capsule in a health food ‘illegal’ as it’s not ‘safe’.
Soon our gardens will be deemed to be ‘not safe’. The same rhetoric that posits that toxins is akin to conspiracy have deemed that nutrients in food are to be treated as toxic waste -read up on codex alimentarius passed in the u.n. and being implemented by the w.t.o. nutrients are to be limited to 5% hence the cold pasteurization -irradiation it destroys the nutritional value of the foods. Ah the love!

It is with knowledge and action that we will effect change. A very large silo operator in Western Canada in response to the abandonment of wheat in the diet told their oats producers to stop using it or they wouldn’t buy their oats. Oats shows to be very high in residue.

One of the great adjuncts to the paleo / carnivore / ketogenic diets is to do some intermittent fasting (not for the kids but for the adults) giving the body a break has profound! health implications. A 3 day fast not that strict as a water fast with maybe some coffee and coconut oil to quell the hunger can reset your metabolism and is excellent for the kidneys. This sort of fast is virtually -to my mind impossible when running on glucose but when in ketosis it’s a muscle that we can develop (I’ve been working on it and don’t profess to be an expert about this).

Allergies = toxic liver. Get the kids detoxed on sulfur actually the sulfur doesn’t do the detoxing it is the liver that requires it that does the detoxing.

Sulfur is a major plant element and it is extremely deficient in the north american diet because of agribusiness stupidity. Commercial n.p.k. fertilizers are missing the ‘s’ the ‘h’ hydrogen we get from rain but the ‘s’ has to be converted from sulfur to sulfate form for the plant to use. Since routine annual tillage -which is the main business practice of 99.9% of agribusiness -cash croppers is used to prep the ground for what is now mostly genetically modified grain that allows us to spray the plants directly (unlike the past where the ‘cides’ were banded -next to the plants otherwise they would kill the plants now the genetic modification allows the plants to be sprayed directly) with round-up this extremely powerful antibacterial kills off the soil bacteria (and our intestinal soil flora) so even if there is sulfur in the soil good luck getting any. Sulfer plays an important role in protein synthesis and our livers use compounds derived from it like methionine. Since the grains are now nutrient free (nutrition is a ‘frill’) and the strong antibacterial effect damages our guts we no longer get the ‘b’ vitamins that we used to. B1 deficiency = road rage, and enables sulfur to be recycled in the body.
There is no one size fits all strategy and much to know about this subject.

Coming off this diet into a vegan style diet for short periods – say a month is also a very powerful cleanser and why vegetarians and vegans
do well in the short term. They can’t however it seems find high brix food. Food of sufficient quality, and so over the long term they get sick.

      l8r)

  3. Mikhaila, some people told me that when they started eating only raw meat, after some months they could tolerate other foods again!!

    1. I was at 136 kilos yesterday, which is what I expected, and I expect to lose at least 10 kilos fairly easily.

Just had a beautiful bloody steak, got to love the Portuguese beef compared to the French, and my belly’s feeling not exactly hungry, just out of habit I think. It’ll pass, it always does.
